Woke up at 6:30am the next morning to another cloudy day. This time the clouds were accompanied by heavy rain that didn’t look like it was going to lighten anytime soon. However, my cousin and I wasn’t going to let this rain impede our plans, especially when the Conrad Hilton provided us with umbrellas! To start off the day, we got dressed and grabbed some complimentary breakfast offered by the Conrad Hilton.
The Conrad offered a variety of food at the breakfast buffet. The buffet area was divided into sections. One section of the dinning area offered salads, fresh cheese, crackers, fresh salmon, sliced ham and salami. Next section offered hot miso soup, ramen noodles, soba noodles, and ingredients for you to build your own. There was also a pastry section, hot meats section, and a fruit area. As we sat down, we each ordered a cup of coffee. Each cup is ordered and freshly brewed from an espresso machine near the entrance of the dining area. We were then handed a hot dish menu where we were allowed to choose one. The hot dish menu offered a range of traditional breakfast plates such as croque madame and oeuf cocotte to traditional Japanese breakfast, which takes approximately 30 minutes to prepare. We ordered a different hot dish for each of the five days we stayed at the Conrad. For our first day, we both went with the traditional Japanese breakfast.
All dishes tasted amazing. It was my first time trying out a traditional Japanese breakfast and I really enjoyed it. Served with a bowl of rice, grilled fish, egg, vegetables, tofu, and miso soup, it may sound like a light breakfast, but was very filling. Out of everything, I think the traditional breakfast was my favorite, not just because it was different, but because it offered a large variety for one dish.
The breakfast did not disappoint, and since it was complimentary for us, we made sure to get a full breakfast in so we had enough energy to walk throughout Tokyo. After breakfast on this day, we grabbed our umbrellas and made our way towards お台場 (Odaiba).
